No. 1 Villanova Beats No. 12 Virginia on Donte DiVincenzo’s Tip-In at The Buzzer

Villanova came from 13 down in the second half against Virginia to win 61-59 on a tip-in at the buzzer by redshirt freshman Donte DiVincenzo on Sunday at Wells Fargo Center.

The No. 1 Wildcats were coming off Tuesday’s loss at Marquette.

With about 2 seconds on the clock, Josh Hart drove the lane and put up a shot that rolled off the rim. DiVinenzo snuck in on the back side and tipped it back in for his only basket of the game.

“That was a great shot by Josh,” he told Shannon Spake on FS1. “The defense sagged off Josh and they turned their head. It was a habit to attack the offensive glass and I was lucky enough to get the tip in right at the end.”

Said Villanova coach Jay Wright: “I knew Donte would be in the perfect spot. When you have good players, plays look good. He’s a helluva player, so’s Josh.”

Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges led Villanova (20-2) with 15 points apiece, and Hart added 12.

Former Iona Prep star Ty Jerome had 15 for the Cavaliers (16-4), former St. Benedict’s Prep standout Marial Shayok added 14 and Isaiah Wilkins had 12.
