UNION, N.J. — Luther Muhammad scored his 1,000th career point and Louis King threw down a massive one-handed dunk as Hudson Catholic got revenge on St. Mary’s-Elizabeth on Friday night.
Muhammad went for a game-high 22 points and King had 15 as Hudson Catholic earned the 62-53 win in the Investors Classic at Kean University. Jahvon Quinerly added 19 points as the team earned revenge from a 32-30 loss at the Christmas break.
“That felt good, I’m not gonna lie,” said Quinerly, who is being courted by Villanova, Arizona, Seton Hall, Virginia and Stanford, among others.

Muhammad, who is being courted by Seton Hall, St. John’s, Xavier, Cincinnati and Tulane, among others, said he wasn’t aware he was close to his 1,000th career point entering the game.
“It feels good, I’m excited,” the 6-foot-5 Muhammad said. “I knew it was a possibility. I wasn’t coming in like, ‘Oh, I’m getting 1,000 points because anything can happen.’ I was just coming in trying to win, and if the 1,000th point comes, it comes, and if it don’t, it don’t. It is what it is.”
As for the coaches, Seton Hall went four deep with head coach Kevin Willard, associate head coach Shaheen Holloway and assistants Grant Billmeier and Freddie Hill. UConn had associate head coach Glenn Miller, St. John’s had assistant Matt Abdelmassih and Rutgers had assistant Brandin Knight.
“I saw them but I didn’t really pay attention,” Muhammad said.
As for Seton Hall rolling four deep, he said, “It says a lot, it says we they main priority.”
Seton Hall made the first “Fab Five” group offer to the Sports U teammates Muhammad, Quinerly, King, Naz Reid (who faced The Patrick School in the nightcap) and Atiba Taylor.
Rutgers and UConn later followed suit with the group offer.
St. John’s also likes Muhammad as a big two guard in the Big East, and plans to go big in the 2018 class.
Meantime, the 6-8 King went for 15 points, including this massive dunk.
“It was great, it was very good,” King said when asked how the dunk felt. “I just screamed, I think. I was so hype.

UConn is among the schools recruiting King hard, along with Seton Hall, Rutgers, Syracuse, Maryland, Louisville and Indiana.
“Coach [Dwayne] Killings has been on my tail for a long time, I got a very good relationship with him,” King said of the UConn assistant. “I really like their school.”
And Seton Hall continued to show love for the Sports U guys.
“They’re really interested in us and I really thank them,” he said. “They [are] very interested in us the most.”
