Kentucky’s latest five-star commit is now officially a college student.
Hamidou Diallo, who pledged his allegiance to Big Blue Nation on Saturday, has enrolled in classes and began the spring semester on Wednesday, according to a school press release.
“I’m blessed and excited to be here at the University of Kentucky,” said the 6-5 shooting guard. “I can’t wait to hit the floor and get rolling and get better each and every day.”
The plan is still for Diallo to redshirt this season before partaking in actual games starting in the 2017-18 campaign.
In the meantime, he will benefit tremendously from going up against the likes of De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, and Isaiah Briscoe in practice on a daily basis.
“What excited me was that Hamidou wanted more than anything else to train with our guys and to practice and wasn’t worried about playing games this year,” said UK head coach John Calipari. “It gives him an unbelievable head start on next year, and as I told him, he’s being put in a position to lead next season because he’s going to have that head start on everyone else.”
Everyone else includes a quartet of incoming five-star commits in P.J. Washington, Quade Green, Jarred Vanderbilt and Nick Richards plus four-star signee Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
