John Calipari has 1.58 million Twitter followers.
That’s more than twice as many as the official Twitter of the New York Mets (673,000).
The Kentucky coach has been a master at promoting the Kentucky brand since taking over as head coach there in 2009.
And Wednesday night was a perfect example.
After New Jersey native and former Kentucky star Karl-Anthony Towns went off for a career-high 47 points and 18 rebounds in the Timberwolves’ 106-104 loss to the Knicks (thanks to Carmelo Anthony’s game-winner), Calipari took to Twitter to praise KAT and plug the Kentucky brand.
Wow!!! Congrats to @KarlTowns. By the way, the last six players to post 40-point, 15-rebound games are all from our family. https://t.co/clRNFQl5Sz

Anthony Davis has done it four times and Boogie Cousins once.
The last six 40-pt 15-reb games have all been by Kentucky big men
The last non-Kentucky player with such a game? Russell Westbrook in 2015

Said Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek: “We gotta do a better job on Towns. How many did he have? 103?”
The two teams will meet again on Friday at Madison Square Garden, giving Calipari yet another opportunity to promote his brand if KAT does something big in his back yard.
