This is not the kind of beginning Chris Mullin was hoping for in his second season at his alma mater.

St. John’s lost to Delaware State, 79-72, on Tuesday night at Carnesecca Arena, the Red Storm’s fifth straight loss.

Delaware State entered the game with a 1-5 record, their only win coming against Division III Summit on opening night before they dropped five straight. The Hornets finished 7-25 last season, 5-11 in the MEAC.

On offense, Delaware State (2-5) made 58 percent of its shots from the floor and 53 percent from beyond the three-point arc. Defensively, they relied on a zone for most of the game.

Kentucky freshman point guard De’Aaron Fox made history on Monday night.

Or did he?

Fox was credited with just the second triple-double in the school’s storied history, putting up 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in No. 1 Kentucky’s 115-69 destruction of Arizona State in the Bahamas.

Chris Mills had Kentucky’s first triple-double on Dec. 27, 1988 against Austin Peay.

“I didn’t even know it had been that long. But it felt good,” said Fox, the projected No. 10 pick in the NBA Draft by DraftExpress.com.

On Tuesday morning, SportsCenter showed that Fox was credited with his seventh assist on a jump shot by Malik Monk (23 points) that wasn’t an actual assist.

Kentucky is deferring the matter to the official scorer.

“We are aware of the statistic in question and informed the official scorers,” Kentucky spokesman Eric Lindsey said in a statement. “We defer all decisions to the official scorer. Because of travel, they are currently working through the process now of evaluating the play in question.”

Count Arizona State coach Bobby Hurley among Fox’s fans.

“He’s a really, really, really talented guy,” said Hurley, who led Duke to back-to-back NCAA titles in the early 1990s. “I’m a big fan of his.”

Trae Young, the 6-foot-2 point guard from Norman (OK) North and MoKan Elite, is targeting a college decision in early 2017.

Young, who won the Peach Jam with MoKan Elite and then captured a gold medal with the USA U18 team at the FIBA Americas Championship, is focusing on Oklahoma, Kansas, Oklahoma State and Kentucky.

Kansas went four deep with head coach Bill Self and three assistants on Saturday night when Young went for 33 points in Norman North’s 65-55 loss to 2017 Kansas commit Marcus Garrett and Dallas (TX) Skyline at the Thanksgiving Hoopfest in Duncanville, Texas.

Meantime, Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger and an assistant were on hand, as were Oklahoma State head coach Brad Underwood and assistant Mike Boynton.
