Matt Coleman, the 6-foot-1, 174-pound point guard from Oak Hill (VA) Academy, plans to commit sometime within the next month and then sign during the spring.
“I think that’s going to be the plan,” he said Friday by phone. “I could see a commitment coming within a month from now, but right now I just don’t have that feeling of where I want to go in my heart.”
Coleman is down to Duke, Texas and Stanford.
His most recent visit was to Texas at the end of October.
“Texas was real nice, I say they laid out the red carpet,” he said. “Just being there with my family and [head coach] Shaka [Smart] spending some time, I really enjoyed myself.”
Coleman visited along with 7-footer Mohamed Bamba of the Westtown (PA) School and the PSA Cardinals. Bamba is considering Texas along with Duke, Kentucky, Harvard and a few others, but also won’t sign until the spring.
UConn announced the signings of guard Makai Ashton-Langford and forwards Tyler Polley and Josh Carlton.
“We are excited to add these three student-athletes to our UConn family,” head coach Kevin Ollie said. “They are people of high character as well as outstanding athletes.”
The 6-foot-2 Ashton-Langford, a guard from Worcester, Mass., is attending Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, N.H.) this year after transferring from Cushing Academy (Ashburnham, Mass.). A consensus Top 40 recruit, Ashton-Langford played AAU ball for Mass Rivals, where he was a teammate for two years with current UConn sophomore Jalen Adams.
“Makai is a great point guard from the Boston area, where we’ve done a real good job recruiting in the last few years,” Ollie said. “He’s just a great kid. He’s got quickness, he’s explosive, and he can shoot the ball. And he’s with a great program at Brewster as he gets ready to come to UConn.”
WASHINGTON (AP) — You learn a lot about people when they’re down, President Barack Obama declared Thursday, and he wasn’t talking about an election. Obama saluted the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers for rallying from behind to defeat the Golden State Warriors and end a Cleveland pro sports title drought stretching back to 1964.
Obama honored the Cavs on the South Lawn of the White House, squeezing in another sports champion before he leaves office. He opened with: “That’s right. I said world champion and Cleveland in the same sentence.”
The Cavs came back from a 3-1 deficit to win the championship against a Warriors team that set an NBA record for wins during the regular season.
“The first team in history to dig themselves out of a hole like that,” Obama said. “The comeback was remarkable, and you learn about people when they’re down.”

That comment came shortly after Obama met with Donald Trump, who won the White House race to succeed him after a campaign in which the president declared the businessman unfit.
