ATLANTA — After scoring 24 points and dishing out six assists in IMG Academy’s 99-92 win over Collin Sexton and Pebblebrook (GA) High School in front of a packed house at the Holiday Hoopsgiving event, Trevon Duval said he had picked up an offer from Duke.
“Yeah, yeah they have offered,” the 6-foot-4 Duval told ZAGSBLOG after a game in which the Alabama-bound Sexton went off for 39 points. “Yeah, definitely, I’m planning on taking my official to Duke as well as to my other four. I don’t know right now when, but it’s coming soon. Just working on a date right now.”
Duval recently cut his list to five schools: Duke, Kansas, Baylor, Arizona and Seton Hall.
Duke, which had associate head coach Jeff Capel on hand watching Duval, remains in the mix for both Duval and Oak Hill Academy (VA) point guard Matt Coleman, who is also considering Texas and Stanford and could decide next month.
“It would be pretty big playing there,” Duval said of Duke. “I’ve seen Kyrie Irving, Frank Jackson, a lot of really great point guards and players play there. Kyrie is a guy that I’ve looked up to for a long time.”
The Delaware native said Baylor is also working hard at this point.
“Baylor is in touch a lot, really all of them right now,” Duval said. “I want to take all of those visits as soon as possible. Get them over with, so I can sit down and make the decision.”
Meantime, Seton Hall is also in the mix. Duval spent the early part of his high school career at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark.
“Yeah, it definitely has to do with Isaiah Whitehead and the stage they had him on,” Duval said of the former Seton Hall guard now with the Nets. “Coach [Kevin Willard] really lets his guys go there.”
Duval has said in the past that he wants to be in college for one year and one year only before heading to the NBA, and says that is still the goal. He is projected as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2018 draft by DraftExpress.com
“I think everyone’s goal is to be a one-and-done,” Duval said. “Everyone’s dream is to get to the league. The quicker I can get to my dream, then I’m going to do what I can do.”
