Deng Gak Down to Three Schools, Focusing on Early Decision

Deng Gak, the 6-foot-10 center who runs with the PSA Cardinals and plays for Blair (N.J.) Academy, is down to three schools and is aiming for an early decision, Blair head coach Joe Mantegna said.

Gak is focusing on Miami, Florida and Kansas, with Indiana and Duke no longer in the mix. He  had originally cut his list to those five.

Miami head coach Jim Larranaga was expected in to see Gak on Wednesday, Mantegna said.

Gak visited Miami Sept. 23-25 and will also trip to Florida Oct. 19 and to Kansas Oct. 21. The Florida visit was postponed after Hurricane Matthew.

“Deng is a late comer to the recruiting scene arriving in New Jersey as a junior,” Blair coach Joe Mantegna said recently. “He hasn’t even scratched the surface of what he will be as he transitions to a totally different culture and a very different style of basketball than he was used to previous. He has very little feel for the differences between these schools growing up in Australia, so the official visits will be a huge part of the process.”

Also at Blair, Anthony Mack, the 6-6 shooting guard from Blair, visits Missouri Oct. 19 and Georgia Oct. 21.

Zach Kent, Blair’s 6-10 center visits Tennessee Oct. 14 and Northwestern Oct. 21.

All are looking to sign early, Mantegna said.
