DeAndre Ayton, the 7-footer projected as the potential No. 1 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, verbally committed to Arizona on Tuesday evening’s edition of SportsCenter.

Ayton, a native of the Bahamas who plays for Hillcrest Prep (AZ), also considered Kentucky and Kansas.

Arizona has never produced a No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft, only Mike Bibby and Derrick Williams as No. 2s.

“I made Arizona home going to Hillcrest Prep,” he said on ESPN. “My family and I can benefit by going to my games. Coach [Joe] Pasternack and Sean Miller, we really trust those guys and I know they can help me get to the next level.”

Ayton compared his game to an NBA legend’s.

St. John’s head coach Chris Mullin and assistant Matt Abdelmassih will be busy on the recruiting trail this week.

On Tuesday, St. John’s was set to host Moses Brown, the 7-foot-1 Class of 2018 big man from Archbishop Molloy and New Heights, as well as 6-10 Class of 2019 big man Aidan Igiehon of Lawrence Woodmere Academy.

Brown took an unofficial visit to UConn on Aug. 31. UConn had already offered him a scholarship.

Brown was impressed at the family environment the team fostered.

Makai Ashton-Langford is off the board to UConn following a weekend official visit to the school.

The 6-foot-2 Brewster Academy point guard was down to UConn and Providence, and was slated to visit Providence later this month, a trip that’s no longer necessary. He is UConn’s first 2017 commit.

“With PC, it was building up, but with UConn, they’ve always been a school that all guards wanted to go to,” he told Dave Borges of the New Haven Register.

“I definitely have utmost respect for [Providence coach Ed] Cooley, what he’s been doing last couple years. It was a very tough decision.”
