Paul Scruggs Visits UConn, Planning Michigan State, Indiana Trips

Paul Scruggs, the 6-foot-4 point guard from Indianapolis (IN) Southport, visited UConn officially over the weekend and is considering the Huskies along with Michigan State, Indiana and Xavier.

“The visit went very well,” Mike Peterson, Scrugg’s AAU coach, told SNY.tv. “It was our first time out to UConn, it was a very impressive trip. [Coach Kevin] Ollie does a great job, I don’t see UConn spiraling downward at all in terms of getting top players and top talent. He does a great job, that’s a really good dude. He leaves a lasting impression on recruits, that’s for sure.”

UConn also hosted 6-9 DeMatha Catholic (Md.) center Josh Carlton, and he and Scruggs spent time together.

“We had dinner and breakfast with him and hung out,” Peterson said. “He’s definitely a big kid.”

Scruggs will now try to set official visits to Michigan State and Indiana, as he’s already visited Xavier officially.

“We’re looking to get the Michigan State visit and an Indiana visit but we’re trying to speed things up,” Peterson said. “We know the business of it, schools can go out and get other guards. So we’re going to try to looking at speeding some things up and getting this process wrapped up.”

Wherever he goes, Scruggs could be an effective point guard.

“The more I look at it now, we definitely want to get his point guard skills enhanced and that’s a big reason why we went to see Kevin,” Peterson said. “He’s played at a high level. UConn’s got a serious guard background. It’s proven that they play multiple guards and they have a lot of guard success.

“I think everybody who is recruiting him now is looking at him to play point guard as well as play off the ball, too. He’s what you consider a big combo guard so most schools are looking at him to play the one and the two.”
