Trent Frazier to Illinois

Trent Frazier, the 6-foot-2 point guard from West Palm Beach (FL) Wellington verbally committed to Illinois on Sunday following his visit, his high school coach confirmed to SNY.tv.

The news was first reported by Scout.com.

Ranked the No. 20 point guard in the Class of 2017 by 247Sports.com, Frazier also considered Georgia, Maryland, Seton Hall and VCU, Wellington coach Matt Colin said.

“I really think it came down to the relationship he developed with the coaching staff over the last two years and once he got on campus and had the opportunity for to see it for himself and meet the players he knew The University of Illinois felt right,” Colin said.

Frazier joins point guard Damonte Williams, shooting guard Javon Pickett and center Jeremiah Tilmon in John Groce’s 2017 class.

“He’s the best point guard in the state of Florida, obviously one of the best point guards in the country, a proven winner,” Colin said. “He won a state title as a sophomore and hit the game-winning free throw with .5 seconds left in the 8A game. He was the Player of the year in Palm Beach County and a two-time 1st team all-state selection.

“He’s an unbelievable ball-handler, decision maker, and can flat out score in many different ways. The right play happens at the right time with the ball in his hands.”
