Kevin Knox to Cut List Again, Uncertain on Package With Carter and Trent

NEW YORK — Having already cut his list to 10 schools, Kevin Knox plans to trim his list again sometime in the near future.

“I’m focused on five or six that I really want to focus on, I’m going to narrow down to five or six probably next month,” the 6-foot-8 Class of 2017 small forward from Tampa (FL) Catholic and E1T1 told SNY.tv Friday at Elite 24 practice.

Knox didn’t participate in the first two days of practice because of a knee ailment but said he hopes to play in Saturday’s nationally televised game (ESPNU, 7:30).

“I’m going to see how my leg feels and I’m going to go from there,” he said.

Knox’s current list includes Duke, North Carolina, Miami, Alabama, Kansas, Kentucky, Villanova, Florida State and Arizona.

Knox declined to say which schools might be on his next list.

“I can’t really release that yet,” he said. “There’s some that I really want to look at.”

His 247 Crystal Ball stands at 100 percent for Duke, and he likes what the Blue Devils offer.

“Just being able to play pretty much any position,” he said. “They give a lot of freedom to their wing players and that’s something I really like about them. I watched Brandon Ingram last year; he was spectacular last year just going inside and out and that’s something I really watch.”

Gary Trent Jr. and Wendell Carter Jr.both of whom are on the Nike trip to the Bahamas this week — have openly talked about a package deal together, with many people suspecting they will end up at Duke, a la Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor.

Fellow Class of 2017 stars Mohamed Bamba and Quade Green of the PSA Cardinals — who are also on the Nike trip — have also been linked to Duke.

But Knox isn’t certain he will join the party.

“They all want to play with me,” he said. “We all want to play together in college. They [Carter and Trent] probably leaning somewhere but as for me I’m not really leaning towards anywhere. But it would be fun playing with them in college.”

Asked if he thinks Trent and Carter will end up together, Knox said: “Yeah, they’re a serious package deal. They tell me all the time they’re playing together. They’re roommates pretty much at every camp, so I’m pretty sure them two will play together in college.”

Is a three-man package realistic?

“No, not really,” he said “Usually it’s two-man. I haven’t really seen a three-man or four-man package deal before.”

Meantime, Florida State figures to remain heavily in the mix. Kevin Knox Sr. was a wide receiver on Florida State’s 1994 national championship team and a sixth-round NFL draft pick. His mother also played volleyball for the Seminoles.

“FSU was in my Top 10,” Knox said.  “Jonathan Isaac said he really likes it. He picked up a lot of weight. He’s at about 215 now. They really want me to follow in the legacy of my parents and go start something of my own.”
