Wabissa Bede, the 6-foot-1 point guard who helped Mass Rivals win four tournaments this summer and go 21-0, cut his list to five schools and is planning some visits.
The Cushing Academy (MA) point guard is down to Butler, La Salle, Virginia Tech, UMass and Minnesota. He will take an official to Butler Aug. 25-27 and has an in-home with Virginia Tech Sept. 11.
He broke down all five schools for Scout.com:
Butler: “Coach [Chris] Holtmann was recruiting me a lot this summer I would see his face at almost every game. He said he needs a point guard and he thinks I can be their starting point guard if I go there. Assistant coach Terry Johnson was at every game this summer too and was recruiting me since September.”
LaSalle: “Probably the hardest school recruiting me because they have been texting and calling me for almost two years now and Coach [John Giannini] and Coach [Sean] Neal are my guys.”
Virginia Tech: “I love coach [Buzz] Williams. [He] reminds me of Vin. He’s tough with a soft heart. He believes in me a lot and I can play at that level and produce there. Also they’ve been recruiting me a lot this summer.”
UMass: “They are the hometown team and been recruiting me a lot for two years . Coach [Derek] Kellog is a good guy and a great coach and I love their style of play. It’s very similar to Rivals.”
Minnesota: “Coach [Richard] Pitino is a great guy and also feels like I can produce at that level. He tells me I will play a lot there too and he was almost at every game this summer and coach [Nate] Pomeday was at every game this summer too.”
