Khalif Battle, a 6-foot-4 Class of 2019 shooting guard who picked up a scholarship offer from Rutgers this week, has transferred to New Jersey power Roselle Catholic from St. Joe’s Metuchen.
Khalif and his older brother, Tyus Battle, spent last year together at St. Joe’s. Tyus is now a freshman on the Syracuse basketball team.
“For us it really came down to convenience and some other factors that we will not go into,” Gary Battle, the player’s father, told SNY.tv. “In addition, since I will be traveling out of town quite a bit due to a new project my business has acquired, Khalif will be spending most of his days and nights at his mom’s and RC is more convenient for her. We also have guardianship over an African young man who went to RC last year and plans on returning. His name is Boko Mupungu and he is from the Congo. Khalif loved his time at St. Joe’s and he did not want to leave. However, family is first. Our kids understand that.”
RC, which won the New Jersey Tournament of Champions in 2013 and ’15, will have a slew of talented guards, including Battle, senior Nate Pierre-Louis, senior Leondre Washington and Chicago native Kahlil Whitney, a member of the Class of 2019.
