CARTERSVILLE, Ga. –– Jahvon Quinerly has been phenomenal here at the UAA Finals.
With Tony Bennett of Virginia and Chris Mullin of St. John’s among many coaches on hand, the Hudson Catholic (N…J) point guard has averaged 17 points, and 4 assists in two wins over the Florida Vipers and New Heights.
“It’s been great,” Quinerly told SNY.tv. “Just trying to win the UAA Finals. That’s my main focus. We need to continue to play defense. A lot of teams lack that at this level of the circuit. If you play defense, you have a better chance of winning games.”
Ranked No. 28 in the class of 2018 by ESPN, the 6-foot-1 Quinerly said that being raised in the Jersey area helped him to become the player he is.
“That’s where the toughness comes from I think,” Quinerly said. “I feel like up in New Jersey and New York, we have some really tough guards. I knew all of these guys, so it’s awesome really.”
With many schools currently in the fold for Quinerly, he listed a couple programs that have been in touch recently.
“Seton Hall, Virginia, Villanova, UConn, St. John’s, California, Stanford,” Quinerly said. “Ohio State offered [Wednesday] night, and Vanderbilt offered last week. Those are the most recent.”
Quinerly, Naz Reid, Louis King, Luther Muhammad and Atiba Taylor were all offered by Seton Hall last fall as the “Fab Five” and have also been offered by St. John’s and UConn.
“We talk about it every day,” King told SNY’s Josh Newman of the five-man package deal.
