Zion Williamson Talks Recruitment

By JACK LeGWIN

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Zion Williamson put on a show this morning, scoring 25 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in a 80-72 win over Urban DFW.

John Calipari was in attendance, along with Scott Drew from Baylor, and assistants from many other high major schools.

Williamson said after the win that he’s currently just focusing on winning an Adidas Championship.

“It wasn’t a good win,” Williamson told SNY.tv. “But our main goal now though is just to win the finals.”

Williamson said that playing in front of all of the coaches is an experience that he enjoys, but isn’t overwhelmed by in the slightest.

“It is a little surreal,” Williamson said. “In a way, I feel like I’m the best, so I’m not surprised to see any of them here.”

When he was asked to name the schools that were in touch at this moment, he listed a plethora of high major programs that have been in contact.

“A lot of schools have been in touch,” Williamson said. “Iowa State, Seton Hall, North Carolina, Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia, Baylor, Kentucky, Duke. There’s more, but I can’t think of them all right now.”

When Williamson was asked about the possibility of going to Kentucky and playing for Coach Calipari, he had nothing but good words to say about the way that players were prepared for the next level in Lexington.

“It would be an honor to go and play for someone like that,” Williamson said. “He gets his players prepped for the pros and that’s everyone’s dream.”

Williamson also expanded a bit more on his contact with Duke, mentioning that three Duke assistants have been in touch.

Coach (Jeff) Capel, Nate James and Jon Scheyer,” Williamson said. “They’ve contacted me seperately. They all said they liked my game, and they’d be interested in seeing me go to Duke.”
