Kentucky, Oklahoma in Good Shape for Trae Young’s Final 5

Kentucky and Oklahoma remain in good shape to make the final five cut for Class of 2017 point guard Trae Young, who plans to cut his to five after next month’s Peach Jam.

“It’s looking good for Kentucky,” Young told Ben Roberts at the USA Baksetball U18 trials in Colorado.

Oklahoma is the home school for the 6-foot-1 Young out of Norman (OK) North and figures to make the cut, too.

Young visited Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas in the past few days, he told Roberts, while Washington remains in good position as well. Young has MIssouri and Virginia among those currently on his list.

As for Kentucky, Young previously told SNY.tv that he will definitely take an official there.

“They’ve made me a priority since day one,” Young said. “They’ve come down to my school twice already this year. I’m definitely going to take an official visit there. As for playing for Coach Cal, He’s had a lot of very good point guards, [Eric] Bledsoe, Brandon Knight, the list goes on and on. He says he sees me coming in and being able to start right away, and be the lead guard from Day 1. I haven’t looked at all of the official visits I’m going to take, but Kentucky will definitely be one.”

The Wildcats have De’Aaron Fox coming in as a freshman this year and Isaiah Briscoe returning as a sophomore but both could be gone after the 2016-17 season.

“Coach [John] Calipari has made me a priority with how often he stays in touch with me, also Coach [Lon] Kruger and I talk quite a bit, Coach [Shaka] Smart has been in contact with me a lot, Coach [Bill] Self and I talk a lot and Coach [Lorenzo] Romar too,” he wrote on his recent USA Today blog

“I don’t know if I’ll be able to get any visits in this summer with everything I’ve got going on, but I’m looking at the fall as the time I’ll be able to get my visits in.”

Young and Michael Porter Jr. continue to talk about a package deal amid the news that Washington hired MIchael Porter Sr. to its staff.

“Of course everyone wants to know about Mike (Porter) and I’s plans on our package deal and it’s still on,” he wrote on his blog. “Mike released his final five schools and we talked about it before he released it. Those are the best schools for him and I respect that.

“It’s funny because people are assuming that it’s all over and we’re a done deal to Washington because his dad got the assistant job at Washington. I know that Mike is looking at other schools just as hard and Washington was recruiting me really hard before his dad got the job there.”
