Seton Hall may be on the brink of losing one guard, but added another on Monday.
With Isaiah Whitehead set to announce his NBA Draft plans on Thursday, Seton Hall has signed Eron Gordon, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Indianapolis (IN) North Central. The No. 21-ranked shooting guard in the Class of 2016 according to 247Sports.com, Gordon also considered Missouri, Texas Tech and Maryland.
Gordon is the younger brother of New Orleans Pelicans guard Eric Gordon.
“I choose Seton Hall and the reason is because I had such a great visit [in October] and I saw a great opportunity for me to grow as a person and player,” Gordon told SNY.tv. “The coaches don’t want me to fit in or gel, that’s one thing that stuck out. They want me to grow and be special, not to fit in. And as a player I love that they haven’t promised me anything besides a spot on the team and I love that as a player because the opportunity is there.”
Gordon last month won MVP honors for the White Team – finishing with 29 points and 10 rebounds – to lead them to a 144-132 victory over the Maroon Team in the Kentucky Derby Festival Basketball Classic at Freedom Hall in Louisville.
“The skillset I hope to bring is versatility because I know that I can do many great things as a guard,” he said. “I just hope to develop and get better, that’s my main focus.”
Seton Hall lost Derrick Gordon to graduation while Whitehead has until May 25 to pull his name out of the Draft.
The Pirates return rising junior guard Khadeen Carrington and rising sophomore wing Veer Singh and bring in shooting guard Myles Powell.
Kansas State transfer Jevon Thomas becomes eligible at the semester break. Head coach Kevin Willard plans to play Thomas at the point and Carrington at the two once that happens.
