David Beatty Visits UCLA, Will Trip to UConn Monday

David Beatty, a 6-foot-4 Class of 2017 combo guard from Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict’s Prep, visited UCLA this week, and will trip to UConn on Monday, he told SNY.tv.

Beatty triped to UCLA on Tuesday after playing at the Pangos All-American Camp. UCLA also hosted Gary Trent Jr., Charles Bassey, Nassir Little, Cody Reilly, Theo Johns, Kevin Samuels and Jacobi Gordon earlier this week.

“They got good history,” Beatty said. “A lot of players went there and they put the most people in the NBA, so that might be something I look into.”

Beatty is a tough kid from Philadelphia and also prolific scorer who can score from all three levels. He averaged 18 points, 4 assists, 3 reboundsa and 1 steal last season for the Gray Bees, who reached the Dick’s Sporting Goods High School Nationals.

“They said my role is going to be to score and come off screens and make plays for other people and just make other people better and be a leader on the floor,” Beatty said of UCLA.

Meantime, Beatty is planning another trip in Monday.

“I’m supposed to be going to UConn on Monday,” he said. “I’m not sure if that’s a definite. It depends on my schedule.”

Asked who was working the hardest, Beatty listed Maryland, Texas A&M, Seton Hall, Villanova, Temple and Indiana.

As for Maryland, “The coach [Mark Turgeon] who’s recruiting me has a lot of success in his background. He been under a lot of good coaches. And he needs guards and that’s cool. That was the first school that said that they needed me.”

On Texas A&M, “They want me to be a shooter. They’re talking about they want me to be the next Steph Curry, but I don’t know about that.”

On Seton Hall, “I’ve been to Seton Hall during the school year. The assistant coaches are cool and I heard they make their guys way better in workouts.”

On Indiana: “No, I haven’t been to Indiana.”

Beatty has no plans to make or cut a list, and says he’ll just commit when he feels right.

“When I know the school, I’m going to just commit,” he said. “When I feels it’s the right school I’m going to know right then and there and just commit.”
