2018 Guard Zion Williamson Talks Recruiting

SUWANEE, Ga.– Possibly the top player from this past weekend at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions was Zion Williamson.

The 6-foot-6 Class of 2018 wing from Spartanburg, S.C. has burst onto the scene this spring, adding countless offers, most recently from UNLV.

“So far, my summer has been amazing,” Williamson said after a 117-65 win in which he scored 27 points. “I’ve picked up 15-plus offers, and my team has been playing really well.”

Williamson says that he believes playing on the Adidas Circuit for Game Elite was a big boost to his recruitment, mainly because many high level schools have come out and seen him play.

“I feel like playing on the circuit has been a big difference for me,” Williamson said. “Playing in front off all of these coaches has really helped me a lot. Some kids don’t get this opportunity that I get to play at this level.”

Growing up, Williamson says that he didn’t have a specific dream school, or team that he wanted to go to.

“For me it was all about certain players,” Williamson said. “I didn’t have a certain school that was a dream school for me, but right now, Virginia and Clemson are working hardest.”

Williamson says that he will be taking his visits carefully, but also that he won’t be looking for anything in particular on those visits.

“Not really,” Williamson said. “I’m just looking for a school that fits my style, and what I do well on the court.”

Williamson has picked up offers from UNLV, Clemson, Virginia, Tennessee, UCLA, Maryland, LSU, South Carolina, UConn, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, NC State, Mississippi State, Miami, Texas A&M, Iowa State, Florida, Georgia and Tulane.
