Villanova Lands Junior Big Man Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree

The newly-minted national champions landed a big man in the Class of 2017 on Friday night when Dhamir-Cosby Roundtree of Neumann-Goretti High School committed to Villanova following a visit Thursday night.

“They showed me that the school will be a home away from home for me,” he told Philly.com. “And I love the coaching staff.”

The 6-foot-9 center who runs with Team Final also considered Syracuse, Miami, Xavier, Temple, Providence, St. Joe’s, Seton Hall and VCU.

He averaged 14.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 4.1 blocks in his junior season.

“He gives them an athletic and versatile big guy who runs the floor and defends the rim,” Goretti coach Carl Arrigale told SNY.tv. “He was very comfortable with the coaching staff and it gave him an opportunity to stay close to home and continue his education and basketball development at a terrific university. He will do very well there.

“He continues to improve. He has a very big upside, loads of potential.”

Said Team Final coach Aaron Burt: “He brings toughness and leadership a competitive spirit. He’s an extremely good shot-blocker who can score on the low block. He can run the floor well, and can step out and shoot the 10-foot shot.”

Cosby-Roundtree is Villanova’s first pledge in the Class of 2017. The school is also heavily recruiting Neumann-Goretti point guard Quade Green, who is being courted by numerous schools, including Syracuse, Miami, Temple, Xavier and St. Joe’s. Duke sent two assistants to watch him this week.
