Duke Shows Interest in Matt Coleman, Arizona, N.C. State Visit

NEW YORK –– Duke is the latest school to show interest in 2017 point guard Matt Coleman of Oak Hill Academy (VA), while coaches from Arizona and N.C. State passed through Oak Hill this week to see him.

“I heard recently [last week] from Duke,” Coleman told SNY.tv at the Nike EYBL stop in Brooklyn last weekend. “I got in contact with coach [Jeff] Capel and Nolan [Smith]. I heard from them a couple times this past week.”

Duke has Frank Jackson signed for 2016-17 but is looking at 2017 point guards like Coleman and Quade Green of Neumann-Goretti and the PSA Cardinals.

“I don’t know if they’re going to offer but they said they’re going to start heavily recruiting me,” Coleman said. “I guess since the Derryck Thornton transfer and Frank Jackson potentially being a one-and-done, so we’ll see how that goes.”

Coleman knows former Oak Hill big man Harry Giles, who is headed to Duke.

“I called Harry afterwards and he was like, ‘Come on, man. Make the Duke move, be a Blue Devil,'” Coleman said. “Duke is just historic with Coach K.”

The Norfolk, Va., native holds numerous offers from other high-majors, including Texas, Virginia, N.C. State, Ohio State, Arizona, Florida, Indiana and Seton Hall.

“I hear a lot from them on a daily basis,” he said.

Coleman, who runs with Boo Williams in the summer, may cut his list later this summer.

“Maybe after Peach Jam I’ll cut my list, but after that I don’t know when I’d plan to make a decision,” he said.
