Jon Severe to Iona, Sam Cassell Jr. Will Visit

NEW YORK — Fordham transfer Jon Severe committed to Iona during his visit Wednesday.

“It’s my style of play,” he told SNY.tv.

The 6-foot-2 Severe could become immediately eligible for 2016-17 if he graduates from Fordham.

Severe received his release Tuesday from Fordham. He initially chose Fordham over Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Wake Forest and Rutgers in April 2013.

He averaged 7.6 points, 1.6 assists and 1.6 rebounds last season under first-year coach Jeff Neubauer.

Meantime, Sam Cassell Jr., will visit Iona April 8 after the dead period. He averaged just 2.2 points in limited time this season at UConn.

Iona associate head coach Jared Grasso is the lead recruiter for both players as the Gaels look to replace A.J. English and Isaiah Williams, who both graduate. English was invited to the Portsmouth Invitational and hopes to get drafted or become an NBA free agent.

Iona (22-11) won the MAAC Tournament championship and lost to Iowa State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
