What’s up, everyone? This is Sid Wilson, Class of 2017. This is my first Player Blog with ZAGSBLOG.
I am in my junior year at St. Raymond High School for Boys in the Bronx, N.Y. Just recently, we suffered a tough loss to Christ the King in the playoffs. I took the loss very hard the other night. I feel like we should have won that game especially being up six with a minute and a half to go. It was the last time I got to play with my teammates from the Class of ’16. We are very close, especially my teammate Brian Adams and I. We have been playing together since we were 9 years old so that really hurt to see his season end that way.
Earlier this year, I scored my 1000th point as a junior. If I remember correctly, I am the first in my school’s history and that is a big accomplishment. I just felt so blessed to be able to be a part of history at my school and I was happy that all my family and friends were there to see me get my 1,000th point.
The schools recruiting me the hardest right now include Seton Hall, Rutgers, Indiana, South Florida, Fordham, and St. John’s. They are the schools I hear from the most and show me the most love as of right now. All of the schools recruiting me are great and I just feel so blessed to even have a scholarship from any school. At one point no one saw this coming but my family and I. Now I’m just trying to keep working so the schools can keep coming going forward. When it comes to the type of system I want to play in I want to play at a fast-paced because that’s where I excel. I feel that I’m at my best when I’m playing fast tempo and using my athleticism. Being in a system that is more guard- and wing-oriented is a key also.
Academics are a key component as well. I’m an honor roll student at my school and a part of the National Honor Society so academics are a big part of my life. The word student comes first in student-athlete so I try to make sure I never forget that. I haven’t been on any visits recently due to the season. I’ve been to a few games to see various schools play. I will probably go on more visits during the spring and summer. But as of right now I have no visits scheduled.
A little off the court info: As far as music is concerned, there are some good upcoming rappers in New York right now that include Curly Savv, Bam Bino, Dave East and A Boogie. Then there are other good artists like Lil Bibby and Lil Herb. I listen to them the most. Also, I listen to Drake, Fab, and some Future.
Now that high school basketball is over I’m really focused and in the gym working so that I can have a huge spring and summer. I’m really trying to prove people wrong. I get criticized a lot in New York about how I’m not exactly a guard or that my jump shot isn’t consistent enough. I take all that and use it as motivation because I never got better from a compliment, only from criticism. I hope I silence those critics this AAU season especially because it’s my last one.
My senior year is something I am looking forward to. I am willing to do whatever it takes to win a championship. I never want to feel the pain of coming up short again. I really want to win one for Coach [Jorge] Lopez. I feel like the entire staff puts in work behind the scenes that goes unnoticed. This being my final year, I want to go down as the best player to ever walk through St. Raymond’s. I can’t do that without having a ring.
Great talking to you. I hope to write another one during the AAU season.
