Manhattan Coach Steve Masiello Agrees to Extension

Manhattan coach Steve Masiello has agreed to a four-year contract extension through the 2019-20 season, the school announced Thursday.

The extension was previously reported by ESPN’s Jeff Goodman and SNY’s Josh Newman before the school later officially announced it.

“I am very happy about the opportunity to continue to lead the Men’s Basketball Team at Manhattan College,” said Masiello. “I am grateful for the commitment shown by the administration to me and to the program, and I am excited to build on our success in the coming years.”

“We are delighted to have a coach of Steve’s caliber on board for four more years,” said Interim Director of Athletics Tom O’Connor. “He is an excellent teacher of basketball and we look forward to continued success in the future.”

Masiello, 38, has led the Jaspers to back-to-back MAAC Tournament championships. He is 92-70 lifetime as head coach of the Jaspers.

On Thursday, Masiello led Manhattan to a decisive 81-63 victory over No. 11 Marist in the first round of the 2016 MAAC Basketball Championship.

With the win, the Jaspers improved to 13-17 and will next play No. 3 Siena on Saturday at 7 p.m.
