Dajour Dickens, a 6-foot-11 Class of 2017 center from Hampton (VA) Bethel, has committed to Providence, he announced on Twitter.
Dickens, who also held offers from Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Memphis and Creighton among others, is ranked the No. 12 big man in that class by 247Sports.com.
“I’ve decided to attend Providence College!” he wrote. “My family and I have chosen the right fit and people! From this point on , I’ll be answering no questions about recruiting as I am putting my focus on the rest of this academic year and looking froward to a great developing summer and senior year! Thank you to all the college coaches who recruited me. Good luck to all and God Bless.”
Providence has one signed commit for 2016 in 6-2 guard Maliek White.
Providence coach Ed Cooley cannot comment on unsigned commits, but addressed his recruiting generally on the Big East conference call on Friday.
“If you look at our roster, I think Hellen Keller can see we need a little bit of size, that’s been something we tried to address in our recruiting,” Cooley said. “We’ve been doing it at high, high clip the last three months to address our guys in 2016 and ’17 and hopefully we can continue to do a good job. I’m proud of our staff and what they’re doing. Hopefully we can add a few more pieces to the mix.”
