Shamorie Ponds, Jose Alvarado Among Recruits Expected at St. John’s

St. John’s is expecting several key recruits for Sunday’s noon tip with Seton Hall at Madison Square Garden.

St. John’s is expecting several key recruits for Sunday’s noon tip with Seton Hall at Madison Square Garden.

Thomas Jefferson senior Shamorie Ponds, one of three St. John’s commits in the Class of 2016, is expected, as are 2017 guards Jose Alvarado of Christ the King and Justin Minaya of Old Tappan (N.J.).

Jahvon Quinerly and Luther Muhammad, two Class of 2018 guards from Hudson Catholic, are also expected.

Alvarado’s list includes St. John’s, Seton Hall, VCU, Miami (Fla.) and Indiana, to name a few.

Minaya, the son of former Mets GM Omar Minaya, does not hold a St. John’s offer, but does hold them from Boston University and American.

Muhammad and Quinerly hold numerous offers and are part are part of a group “Fab Five” offer by Seton Hall.

Ponds recently went for 29 points in a win over Christ the King.

St. John’s also recently hosted 2016 guard Rawle Alkins on an official and 2016 7-footer Thon Maker on an unofficial.

FREE THROWS

Former St. John’s big man Adonis De La Rosa is on an official visit to Tennessee this weekend. The 6-10 Bronx native left St. John’s in April 2015 and is now at Williston (N.D.) State College.
