Rawle Alkins to Visit UNLV for Second Official

N

Rawle Alkins will take an official visit to UNLV beginning Tuesday — his second official following last week’s trip to his hometown St. John’s where he met Steve Kerr, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson at Madison Square Garden.

The Rebels, who recently fired coach Dave Rice and replaced him on an interim basis with associate head coach Todd Simon, host San Jose State on Wednesday. Assistant coach Ryan Miller is the lead recruiter.

The 6-foot-4 Word of God Academy (N.C.) guard also recently took an unofficial to Arizona.

“I know the life that I want to choose, I’m going to be away from home regardless,” Alkins told me recently. “College, I’m going to travel everywhere. I’m not even going to be home if I go to a local school. I’m not even going to be home, so location is not a factor.”

Ranked No. 17 in the Class of 2016 by ESPN.com, Alkins is currently working with a list of nine schools: North Carolina, N.C. State, Arizona, Louisville, Kentucky, Kansas, UNLV, St John’s and Indiana.

He plans to commit later in the spring.
