Coach K back at Work 1 Day After Missing Duke-Ga Tech game

N

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski was back at work one day after missing his first game in more than 20 years.

School spokesman Jon Jackson said Wednesday night that the Hall of Fame coach worked earlier that day, is feeling better and expects to resume his normal schedule Thursday.

Krzyzewski wasn’t with the Blue Devils for their 80-71 victory at Georgia Tech on Tuesday night, staying in Durham on the advice of Duke University Hospital doctors who checked him out after he felt ill following the team meal Monday night. Associate head coach Jeff Capel coached the Devils in that game.

“To be honest, I was nervous,” Capel said, according to Duke. “It was great. Our staff was great and we gave the players confidence to do what they needed to do.”

Krzyzewski – the winningest men’s coach in Division I history – turns 69 on Feb. 13. It marked the first Duke game he had missed since he was out for the final 19 games in 1994-95 due to back surgery and exhaustion.
