Brendan Bailey to Marquette

4_2942365Brendan Bailey, a 6-foot-8 small forward Bailey out of American Fork (UT), committed to Marquette on Tuesday.

For now the plan is for Bailey to take a two-year Mormon Mission before entering college, so he wouldn’t arrive until 2018.

“It’s time to announce that I will be attending Marquette University to extend my career in Basketball,” he Tweeted.

“A couple of reasons are that I developed a great relationship with all the coaches especially Coach Wojo [Steve Wojciechowski] and assistant coach [Stan] Johnson,” Bailey said by text. “Also, Marquette’s style of play really interests me because it fits my personal style and I know their staff will push me to be the best player I can be.”

The No. 12 small forward in the Class of 2016 according to 247Sports.com, he also considered Michigan, Gonzaga and San Diego State.  He also visited UConn.

“He’s a player with still a young body, he just turned 18,” Thurl Bailey, the former NBA player and Brendan’s father, recently told SNY.tv. “His body’s still growing. He’s 6-8 right now but he’s still got some growing to do.

“He’s a very cerebral player, does very well in structured situations. In today’s game there’s a lot of kids that can put the ball on the floor and go one-on-one. He can do those things but he’s a lot better when he’s in a structured situation defensively and offensively he’s able to really be a high -IQ player.”

The former Arizona State commit is Marquette’s second 2016 commit following small forward Sam Hauser.
