    TertseaRhode Island and head coach Dan Hurley picked up a pledge on Sunday from Mike Tertsea, a 6-foot-10, 226-pound center from The John Carroll  School (MD), a source told SNY.tv.

    Tertsea chose the Rams over George Washington. He visited GW and La Salle in addition to Rhode Island.

    “I picked URI because it’s a really good fit for me,” he told SNY.tv. “I love the coaching staff and the players. Also, I love the campus atmosphere as well.”

    He is the Rams’ second 2016 commit following 6-9 power forward Mike Layssard Jr. from Northwood Lena High (LA), who chose Rhode Island over SMU, Texas Tech and others.

    Together, Tertsea and Layssard Jr. should give the Rams front court depth moving forward in the Atlantic 10.

    CPSFvpTUkAQ6yBcMyles Powell picked up his first scholarship offer from Seton Hall in the 10th grade at Trenton (N.J.) Catholic and they haven’t stopped recruiting him since.

    Two years later, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound shooting guard verbally committed to the Pirates on his official visit to campus. He also considered  UConn, VCU, DePaul and Pittsburgh

    “I’m proud to be a Pirate. They did an excellent job recruiting me,” Powell said by phone Saturday. “Words can’t describe how good my relationship with Shaheen Holloway is. Shaheen, Fred Hill and Coach [Kevin] Willard all did a great job of making me feel like this is my home.

    “I have a great relationship with the team. Me, Isaiah [Whitehead], Desi [Rodriguez], we all played with the Playaz before.”

    Kentucky, Recruiting, St. John's

    Mohammed BambaSt. John’s coach Chris Mullin, Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim and Villanova’s Jay Wright were among a slew of coaches who on Friday watched Mohamed Bamba, a 6-foot-11 2017 star out of Westtown (Pa.) School and the PSA Cardinals AAU program.

    Assistants from Kentucky, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Virginia, Stanford and Penn State were also on hand at Westtown, which has half a dozen Division 1 prospects.

    “By this time next year he will be the number one 2017 player in the country,” PSA Cardinals director Terrance “Munch” Williams said. “Westtown school has a great game plan for him on and off the court that will lead him back into his Nike PSA Cardinals uniform and allow him to dominate the competition.”
