Zach Brown, a 7-foot-1 2017 center from Miami (FL) Senior High, enjoyed his unofficial visit to UConn on Monday and the Huskies remain in strong position for the big man.
“Connecticut is one of the strong considerations,” Michael Lipman, Brown’s legal guardian, told SNY.tv by phone on Tuesday.
“I think you have a head coach, Kevin Ollie, that is a flat-out great coach. He has developed Andre Drummond. We have to find a system that is a good fit academically and a good fit for a big man, and that is going to showcase his offensive skills. And you need a team that’s going to compete while he’s there for the national championship.”
Rawle is headed to Raleigh.
Rawle Alkins, the best New York City high school prospect since Lance Stephenson, is leaving the Big Apple and heading to Word of God Academy in Raleigh, N.C., the same school that produced John Wall and C.J. Leslie.
“I’ve picked Word of God simply because of the vibe that I got when I went to go see them,” the 6-foot-5 former Christ the King guard told SNY.tv. “I feel like we are going to be set for a big year and we can win a championship. I feel like Word of God can do as much for me as I can do for them. I’m not from North Carolina, I’m just gonna get it done there.”
Xavier Simpson, a 5-foot-11 point guard from Lima (OH) Lima Central Catholic, will announce his college choice on Wednesday, Scout.com reported.
He is coming off a visit to Wisconsin this past weekend and also visited Iowa State (Aug. 7) and Illinois (Aug. 28). Simpson cancelled a visit to Miami for this coming weekend.
One source close to the recruitment said he expects Simpson to pick Wisconsin.
Simpson averaged 15.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game in the spring and summer with King James on the Nike EYBL circuit, while shooting 46 percent from the field, 35 percent from beyond the arc and 78 percent from the foul line.

NEW YORK — Four Roger Federer fans dressed in red shirts with the letters “S-A-B-R” spelled out stood in the upper reaches of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
At one point a camera focused on them and the crowd cheered.
They were supporting their man Federer and hoping he would use the SABR shot against big-serving American John Isner in their fourth-round match at the US Open.
Federer had said entering the match he probably wouldn’t use the “Sneak Attack by Roger” — and in the end he didn’t against a man whose fastest serve clocked in at 140 mph.
But it didn’t make a difference.
Trevon Duval has transferred to Advanced Prep International in Dallas, the school formerly known as Prime Prep, Trevon’s father, Trevor told SNY.tv.
“I wanted to go to a place that was high level with everything from the players to the staff, I’ll be playing with Terrance Ferguson and Billy Preston and I can learn from Coach Ray (Forsett) so it’s something I’m really excited about,” Duval told Jason Jordan of USA Today.
The 6-foot-3 2017 floor general spent last season at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, N.J.
“We’re looking to see what the best situation is because we feel as a family these two years are very critical as a person for his development as a basketball player,” Trevor Duval told SNY.tv last month.
