Our Savior New American’s Damon Wilson Academically Cleared, But Still Faces NCAA Hurdles (UPDATED)

DialloBy JOSH NEWMAN & ADAM ZAGORIA

Pittsburgh freshman point guard Damon Wilson has been academically cleared by the NCAA, but still faces some hurdles from the NCAA, a source told SNY.tv.

“He still has some hurdles, they haven’t totally cleared him,” the source said.

ESPN’s Jeff Goodman was first to report the news that Wilson was academically cleared.

Wilson went to Our Savior New American on Long Island, which has come under scrutiny of late, most recently when it was revealed that Kobie Eubanks was not cleared by the NCAA and will not enroll at the University of Alabama. However, with Wilson making it through the NCAA Eligibility Center, does this bode well for Cheick Diallo and the University of Kansas?

Diallo, the MVP of the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic, has been awaiting word from the NCAA on his academic standing, while Bill Self told reporters on Aug. 25 that he wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t learn anything for ‘at least another month.’

Practice opens nationwide on Oct. 2, and if Diallo is not cleared by then for game-action, but Self said he believes Diallo will be allowed to practice.

A native of Mali, Diallo is currently slotted as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by DraftExpress.
