Recruiting Roundup: Trevon Duval Trips to Maryland; Marques Bolden to Visit Kentucky; Dylan Painter Visiting Villanova; Kentucky Calls Andre Rafus (UPDATED)

KJK_0335-XLTrevon Duval took an unofficial visit to Maryland on Tuesday, his father confirmed to SNY.tv.

“It was a good experience,” Trevor Duval said of his son’s visit. “They have a friendly staff and great facilities.”

Trevor Duval added that they have family in the area and were passing through and decided to take him to Maryland.

“It was last minute,” he said.

The 6-foot-3 2017 point guard wowed media members and NBA scouts alike last week at the Under Armour Elite 24 Game.

On The 4 Quarters Podcast this week, ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla compared Duval to a young Rod Strickland.

Duval played at the Elite 24 with 2016 shooting guard Josh Jackson, who also visited Maryland last week and is projected as the No. 4 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by DraftExpress.com.

Maryland has also gotten recent visits from 2016 power forward Taurean Thompson, who recently transferred to Brewster (N.H.) Academy from St. Anthony’s, and 2017 power forward Billy Preston.

Duval, who spent last year at St. Benedict’s Prep, has yet to decide on a high school for this coming season.

His father said they may also take unofficial visits to St. John’s, Syracuse and Arizona.

BOLDEN TO VISIT KENTUCKY

4_2971302Marques Bolden, a 6-foot-10 power forward/center from DeSoto (TX), will visit Kentucky but it won’t be Sept. 4, his father told SNY.tv.

“We had to make a slight change in the dates,” Melvin Bolden said.

“[Kentucky], their interest is pretty high,” Marques Bolden told SNY.tv in June. “[Coach John] Calipari and my dad talk. He’s just been telling him to tell me to keep working. I’ve been talking to [assistant] Kenny Payne a lot myself. The message is keep working and he thinks I’ll be a special player, like the rest of the guys they coach.”

Bolden also holds offers from Duke, Kansas, Baylor, Louisville, Nebraska and others.

KENTUCKY CALLS ANDRE RAFUS

Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne checked in with 6-9 2017 Roselle (N.J.) Catholic forward Andre Rafus, he told SNY.tv.

“Kentucky is beginning to show interest and will come to watch me play next month,” Rafus said. “They love 6-9 guys who can shoot it.”

Rafus transferred from Baltimore to RC, the same school that produced incoming Kentucky point guard Isaiah Briscoe.

PAINTER VISITS VILLANOVA

Dylan Painter, a 6-10 2016 center from Hershey (Pa.) High, is currently on an official visit to Villanova.

He visits Penn State officially Sept. 12.
