SUWANEE, Ga.- Billy Preston is the real deal.
The No.-9 ranked player in the Class of 2017 according to 247Sports.com, the 6-foot-9 Preston is one of the most versatile players in the nation.
Playing on the same team as other high level talent like Terrance Ferguson, Mark Vital and Skylar Mays on MWA Elite, Preston says that it’s been a good experience thusfar.
“It’s really competitive,” Preston told SNY.tv. “I didn’t know it was going to be this competitive, coming from the Adidas Circuit, but it was a new thing for me. I’m a competitive person though, so I like it.”
At times on Thursday, the junior from Prime Prep could be seen bringing the ball up the floor with ease, which is rare for a player his size.
“Just trying to show that I’m a team player,” Preston said. “I’m trying to show that I can be versatile on the court, and bring a lot of different things to the game.”
Playing in front of Arizona’s Sean Miller and multiple other high major schools, Preston says that he does notice the coaches, but he feels like it is expected in July.
“Yes, most definitely,” Preston said. “It’s the live period, so I was expecting that. I’m just trying to go out there and play my game. I have to maintain that because there are coaches there.”
When he was asked if any schools have been working hard than others, Preston did say one in particular has offered and has been showing more interest than anyone else.
“After this year, I think a lot of schools will start to press hard,” Preston said. “Arizona is showing a lot of interest, but besides that, everyone is about the same.”
Preston currently has offers from Arizona, Kansas, UConn, SMU, UCLA, Oregon, USC, Arizona State, Baylor and Utah.
