Mustapha Heron Has a List, But It’s Not Final (UPDATED)

Mustapha Heron

SUWANEE, Ga. — Despite some confusion, Mustapha Heron does not have a final list of schools, only a list of schools he is currently working with.

“I know his dad cut his list,” NY Rens coach Andy Borman said. “But it’s not his final list. The bottom line with Mustapha is that he is a nationally ranked player. If they didn’t cut down their list, they wouldn’t have time to eat or sleep, because schools would be calling him every hour. He’s still open. That list can change. People can get on that list. Those are the schools that they have the best relationship with as of now. Schools can fall off, schools can come on.”

Bryan Heron, the player’s father, told SNY.tv by text his son is considering seven schools at the moment — SMU, Mississippi State, Alabama, Auburn, St. John’s, Maryland and Marquette.

“Oh no, that’s not the final list,” Mustapha Heron told SNY.tv. “That’s the ones that I’ve shown the most interest in so far. The one’s that I like the most. Definitely still open to new schools coming in.”

Red Storm Report previously reported that a visit to Mississippi State is set for Aug. 27, while the plan is to visit all of the schools between August and September.

“Definitely,” Heron said. “The list won’t be final until August. But my decision will be in the October, November area. I’m going to take officials to five of those six schools. I don’t have specifics on those, but I know I’ll take 5.”

Heron took an unofficial visit to St. John’s last month as new head coach Chris Mullin and his staff have made Heron and New York Rens teammate Rawle Alkins a priority since taking over for Steve Lavin in April.

Kentucky is also watching Heron, who told Chris Fisher of CatsPause.com the Wildcats reached out after a strong showing at the Pangos All-American Camp.

Heron, Alkins and the Rens won their first game of the adidas Gauntlet Finale on Wednesday evening, 78-61, over Brookwood Elite. Heron scored 21 points on 9-for-15 shooting in just 17 minutes of action.
