MINNEAPOLISJayson Tatum, the five-star guard out of Chaminade Prep (MO), has had an excellent spring.

Tatum, the top player in the Class of 2016 according to ESPN, led the St. Louis Eagles to a Division C championship within the Nike EYBL circuit, and a high seed at Peach Jam. The 6-foot-8 small forward averaged 19.5 points on 49.3 percent shooting, as well as 8.0 rebounds for the Eagles.

“It’s gone real well, you know, we’re 10-3 and playing in maybe the top division,” he told SNY.tv in an exclusive interview. “All that really matters is that we go to Peach Jam and continue to play well,”

On April 10, Tatum narrowed his recruitment to four schools: Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Saint Louis.

gettyimages-466248222-e1432746657557With Tom Thibodeau now officially out as coach of the Chicago Bulls, Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg becomes the favorite to replace him.

“It’s when we find the right guy,” Bulls GM Gar Forman said Thursday when asked the timeframe on hiring a new coach. “Whether that’s a day, a week, a month, we’re going to do what’s right for the organization”

He added: “We haven’t begun to meet or put a list together … or made any contacts at this point.”

Forman declined to get into specific names and said no updates would be provided along the way, but Hoiberg remains the perceived favorite.

UnknownSt. John’s AD Chris Monasch officially resigned after nine years on Thursday and Sacramento Kings GM Pete D’Alessandro will be a “significant candidate” for the job, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

D’Alessandro recently lost authority within the organization to Vlade Divac, as Wojnarowski previously reported.

D’Alessandro, 46, is a native of Bohemia, N.Y., who attended St. John’s. He was a video coordinator under Hall of Famer Lou Carnesecca and remains close to both Carnesecca and new head coach Chris Mullin, who recently served as an advisor to the Kings.

Monasch’s resignation becomes effective June 30.

“I am most proud of the many achievements of our student-athletes over the last ten years,” said Monasch. “They have embodied what student-athletes should strive for in their respective sport, in the classroom and serving the community. I want to thank all of the coaches, administrators and staff for the support they gave to assist our student-athletes in achieving so much over the last decade.”
