Ike Nwamu is transferring to UNLV and will be immediately eligible.
He Tweeted his decision Saturday night.
“I was really comfortable with the coaching staff, the situation and the personnel,” Nwamu told SNY.tv. “The role they envision for me is to be able to come in and contribute at a high level.”
The 6-foot-4 junior guard from Mercer just visited Nevada and also considered Pittsburgh. He visited UNLV April 17 and was a major target for the Rebels.
He averaged 15.1 points and 3.3 rebounds last season at Mercer in his second season there. He spent his freshman season at Cleveland State in 2011-12.
Nwamu joins point guard Jalen Poyser, small forward Derrick Jones and center Stephen Zimmerman in Coach Dave Rice’s incoming recruiting class.
The Rebels lost shooting guard Rashad Vaughn and forward Christian Wood to the NBA Draft.
UNLV also adds Oregon transfer Ben Carter and Rutgers transfer Jerome Seagears, both of whom sat out last season.
They are also in the mix for Washington transfer Nigel Williams-Goss.
