WEST ORANGE, N.J. – One of the most talked about players in the Class of 2016, Vermont Academy guard Bruce Brown was looking forward to visiting St. John’s on Sunday following the Mary Kline Classic.
St. John’s offered the 6-foot-3 Brown at halftime of a game at the Nike EYBL stop in Lexington, Ky.
“I don’t know a lot [about St. John’s], but I’m going to meet with Chris Mullin,” Brown told SNY.tv before scoring 26 points in a loss in the Underclassmen Game. “I like him, he’s a cool person, I like him a lot.”
WEST ORANGE, N.J. — Following his appearance in the Mary Kline Classic on Saturday night, D.J. Harvey planned a visit to Villanova.
The 6-foot-6 2017 shooting guard from DeMatha (Md.) Catholic says he’s always respected the Big East program.
“I’m taking a visit to Villanova [Sunday],” he told SNY.tv. “Every year they’re a scrappy team, Top 10 most of the time. Coach Jay Wright, I’m a big fan of his.”
Harvey has a long list of suitors and listed Duke, Arizona, Kentucky, Kansas, UConn, Villanova and Texas. He does not hold offers from Duke, Kentucky, Oklahoma or Ohio State.

Junior college star Bashir Ahmed visited Rutgers on Saturday following a recent visit to St. John’s.
The 6-foot-6, 205-pound combo guard from The Bronx visited after being recruited by assistant Greg “Shoes” Vetrone, who also landed Ahmed’s former Hutchinson (KS) Community College teammate Deshawn Freeman.
“The campus was nice and huge, the program has good history,” he told SNY.tv. “It has a good atmosphere for the arena. The coaches were real cool.
WEST ORANGE, N.J. — It’s safe to say that Michael Porter Jr. was the player most fans were excited to see in Saturday night’s Mary Kline Classic Underclassmen Game.
The 6-foot-9 junior small forward from Columbia (MO) Father Tolton has drawn early comparisons to Kevin Durant for his size, shooting ability and athleticism. He is ranked the No. 1 small forward and No. 2 overall player in the Class of 2017 by 247Sports.com.
“He’s one of the best players in the country regardless of class,” Virginia-bound guard Kyle Guy of Lawrence (IN) Central, who has known Porter Jr. since they were young children, told SNY.tv. “The sky’s the limit for him.”
Before scoring 19 points as Team Bravery beat Team Inspiration, 139-132, Porter Jr. said he models his game after some of the NBA’s top wing players.
WEST ORANGE, N.J. — Curtis Jones had quite a busy day for himself.
The 6-foot-3 2016 guard from Huntington (W.V.) Prep visited Georgetown in the morning and picked up a scholarship offer.
For an encore, he went off for 30 points en route to team MVP honors as Team Inspiration fell to Team Bravery, 139-132, in the Mary Kline Classic Underclassmen Game at West Orange High School. The event raised $43,000 for cancer research as of Saturday night.
“It’s great, it’s a lot of fun playing out here today,” Jones told SNY.tv. “It’s a great cause. I have an aunt that died of cancer so it just made me go out and play for her.”
