Rysheed Jordan Will Return to St. John’s

New St. John’s coach Chris Mullin got a major dose of good news on Tuesday when sophomore point guard Rysheed Jordan announced on Twitter he will return to the Red Storm next season.

rysheed-jordan2That is a wise move for the 6-foot-4 guard from Philadelphia since he likely would not have been drafted had he entered the NBA Draft.

With at least another year on campus, he will have a much bigger role on the team and could improve his draft stock for the 2016 NBA Draft or beyond.

Jordan averaged 14.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists last season when he dealt with a family tragedy and also put out a homophobic Tweet for which he apologized. The return of Jordan and 6-9 junior shot-blocker Chris Obekpa will give Mullin two key veterans to go along with newcomers, including Darien Williams, Yankuba Sima and others they may still add.

St. John’s remains involved for uncommitted 2015 forward Cheick Diallo and 2015 guard Brandon Sampson, and is also in the mix for several transfers.
