B9316613349Z.1_20150315205611_000_GGJA7MN9T.1-0Manhattan coach Steve Masiello says he “would love the opportunity” to play undefeated and top-ranked Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament.

And of course the Jaspers (19-13) may just get their chance if they can get past MEAC champion Hampton (16-17) in a play-in game Tuesday in Dayton. The winner of that game gets No. 1 Kentucky on Thursday in Louisville in the Midwest Region.

“I would love the opportunity but we gotta worry about Hampton right now and go one step at a time,” Masiello, a former Kentucky walk-on and former Knicks ball boy, told Bruce Beck of WNBC-TV in New York.

Briscoe layupTOMS RIVER, N.J. — Isaiah Briscoe has never been lacking in confidence.

So minutes after winning the New Jersey Non-Public B state title on Saturday night, it was no surprise that the Kentucky-bound Briscoe guaranteed that he and his Roselle (N.J.) Catholic teammates would win the upcoming New Jersey Tournament of Champions title.

“We going to win, we going to win it,” Briscoe said after going for 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists as Roselle Catholic held off Naismith Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley and St. Anthony, 56-52.

Asked what it would mean to end his high school career by winning the elusive TOC, he said, “I couldn’t ask for anything better.”

D’Angelo Harrison and his fellow seniors have spent four years at St. John’s without ever playing in a single NCAA Tournament game.

That will change on Friday night when the No. 9 Red Storm meet No. 8 San Diego State in a South Region game in Charlotte. The Johnnies, who will be without suspended big man Chris Obekpa, will play the second game that night on CBS following the Duke game.

“Getting in was big for me,” Harrison said. “I know it was for everyone else. Winning games and having all of these accolades does not mean anything because we haven’t done anything in the NCAA Tournament. The fact that we are in is a big step for me and the program. We just want to win as many games as possible.”

NCAA Basketball: Vanderbilt at KentuckyUndefeated Kentucky was installed as the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, but the Wildcats could face some challenging matchups on the road to the Final Four in Indianapolis.

The Wildcats, who earlier Sunday improved to 34-0 by beating Arkansas in the SEC championship game, could face No. 4 Maryland in the Sweet 16 in the Midwest Region and then No. 2 Kansas or No. 3 Notre Dame in the Elite 8 in Cleveland. Kentucky smashed Kansas by 32 points in November.

Kentucky is seeking to become the first team to finish the season unbeaten since Bob Knight’s Indiana club went 32-0 in 1976.

“It is a one-game shot and everyone’s record is the same,” Kentucky coach John Calipari said on ESPN, adding that he planned to give his team Monday off. “I’m going to focus on my team. I think I have the best team and I have the best players. Does that mean we’ll win? No, it doesn’t.”
