Alex Olesinski to UCLA

ALEX-OLESINSKI-141119-1Alex Olesinski, a 6-foot-10 2015 power forward from La Porte (IN) La Lumiere School, verbally committed to UCLA on his official visit, associate head coach Brad Johnstin confirmed to SNY.tv.

Olesinski, who averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds and shot 44 percent from beyond the arc, also considered Boston College, Arizona State and Gonzaga, Johnstin said. UCLA assistant David Grace gets the assist on this one.

His older brother, Marek Olesinski, is a senior forward at Air Force.

“The combination of basketball tradition, high academics and location were factors [in his decision],” Johnstin said. “He’s extremely high academically and is originally from Roswell, N.M., so it will allow him to be close to home.

As far as his skill set, Johnstin said, “Alex has been one of our hardest workers and highest character kids the last two years. His best basketball is a few years away, when his body can develop. But he’s so skilled, intelligent and competitive, that he will succeed at UCLA.

“I think he is a guy that can stretch the floor with his outside shooting at that level and provide leadership the day he gets there.”

Olesinski joins point guard Aaron Holiday and shooting guard Prince Ali in coach Steve Alford’s 2015 class. The Bruins remain involved with uncommitted 2015 forwards Jaylen Brown, Brandon Ingram and Ivan Rabb, who will decide this spring.

Scout.com first reported the Olesinski commitment.
