Burlington (N.J.) Life Center point guard Traci Carter has set two official visits.

The 6-foot-1 Carter will visit Xavier Feb. 28 and Marquette March 7, his mentor Donnie Carr told SNY.tv on Tuesday.

Carter is in the process of trimming his list to five schools and those two are among the five with the other three to be determined, Carr said.

“We’re still in the process of setting up three more officials,” Carr said.

Carter has seen his stock rise dramatically this winter with his strong play and is being courted by UConn, Memphis, Cal, Boston College, N.C. State, Seton Hall, Creighton, Penn State, Temple, La Salle, UMass and George Mason.

THOMAS AKYAZILI ATTENDS ST. JOHN’S GAME

AkyaziliThomas Akyazili, a 6-2 combo guard from Belgium, attended St. John’s exciting 58-57 win over Xavier Monday night at Madison Square Garden.

“It was nice, good win,” he told SNY.tv. “Enjoyed it.”

Fran Fraschilla of ESPN told SNY.tv Akyazili is considered a “mid-major” type of guard and called him a “Davidson type.”

Akyazili will also visit Colorado Thursday and Friday.

Asked what skill set he will bring, he said, “I think I can bring a lot, finding the open man, scoring, just doing what the team needs.”

Utah, Creighton, Davidson, UAB and Iona are among the schools also in the mix.

Akyazili averaged 15.1 points and 4.6 assists last summer at the U18 European Championship for Men Division A.

MARQUETTE ADDS GUARD

AnimSacar Anim, a 6-5, 190-pound shooting guard from Minneapolis (MN) DeLaSalle High School, committed to Marquette on Monday.

“I know that they want me,” Anim told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Coach [Steve Wojciechowski] really has wanted me and I just really wanted to go where I feel wanted.”

“Sacar has had a marvelous senior season, expanding his role going from a defensive stopper and role player as an underclassmen, to an explosive leading scorer of our team at over 25 points per game,” DeLaSalle coach Dave Thorson told SNY.tv.

“Although his versatility as a defender has been well highlighted, his overall offensive game has exploded, where he scores as an adept 3-point shooter at 39 percent, is a difficult slasher to guard in transition, and in the post against a smaller defender or sometimes against zone defense as he is such a crafty threat. This versatility bodes well for Sacar at Marquette, where his skill set fits into the way Wojo wants to play, particularly because of his defensive tenacity.”

Anim joins a recruiting class headlined by projected future lottery pick Henry Ellenson, a power forward, as well as shooting guard Haanif Cheatham and center Matt Heldt.
