MONTVERDE, Fla.- Canada has another face who will emerge soon. His name is Koby McEwen.

At 6-foot-3, the young point guard has played extremely well thus far this season leading Wasatch Academy (Ut.) to a 14-7 record heading into a showdown with the host and nationally-ranked Montverde Academy (Fla.) tonight.

After a 14 point, performance in a 93-76 win over Constitution (Pa.), McEwen said that he has two offers from Ole’ Miss and Baylor, but according to him, those two schools aren’t working the hardest.

“I haven’t heard from them lately,” McEwen told SNY.tv. “The schools that have been really trying to get me lately though are Oklahoma, Butler, Oregon, Davidson, Utah and Middle Tennessee State. I guess those guys since they offered me think they don’t have to work for it, but I haven’t heard from them since, so I don’t know.”

Tyus Battle

Tyus Battle is expected to make his season debut for Gill St. Bernard’s on Saturday against Ridge after missing the first half of the season with a stress fracture, his father told SNY.tv on Friday.

The 6-foot-6, five-star combo guard is also looking to cut his list from 11 at some point in the future.

“He wants to play, high school basketball is part of his happiness,” Gary Battle said. “He needs to work on his conditioning, he hasn’t played in four months.”

Battle has cut his list to 11 schools, but his father said the time off has allowed them to watch a lot of college basketball and “hone in” on several schools.

“We’re going to start narrowing it down soon enough,” Gary said. “I’d like him to do that, so we’ll see if we can get him to do it…I think he’s ready to do that.”

NCAA Basketball: Connecticut at CincinnatiThe American Athletic Conference will shift its postseason tournament to Hartford, Conn., from Memphis this year.

And that’s a good thing for the UConn Huskies.

At 11-8 overall and 4-3 in the American following a 70-58 loss Thursday at Cincinnati, it sure looks like the only way the Huskies will get a chance to defend their NCAA championship is if they win their postseason tournament in their home state.

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has three American teams in his latest bracketology — Tulsa, SMU and Cincinnati.

“The end is coming,” UConn senior guard Ryan Boatright told Dave Borges of the New Haven Register following the Cincinnati loss. “We’ve only got (11) games left. We don’t have too many shots against a good team like this.”

JaQuan Lyle, a four-star shooting guard from Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy, committed to The Ohio State University Thursday night following Ohio State’s 80-56 victory over Maryland.

“JaQuan is big, tough, physical lead guard who can score and pass,” IMG coach John Mahoney told SNY.tv. “His passing and court vision are underrated. He is a perfect fit for the Big Ten style of play.”

With D’Angelo Russell now projected as the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft by DraftExpress.com, Lyle could come in and get immediate playing time with the Buckeyes. He’s averaging 18 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 2.5 steals at IMG.

“He has the potential to be special,” Mahoney told SNY.tv. “He is learning how to work hard every day and what it takes to be very good. He has been working on his shot which has improved.”

Duke v LouisvilleOne day after losing at Notre Dame, Duke announced that junior guard Rasheed Sulaimon has been dismissed from the program.

Houston and Texas are among the possible landing spots for the former Houston (TX) Strake Jesuit star, sources told SNY.tv.

Duke says Sulaimon remains in good academic standing and is expected to finish the spring semester.

“Rasheed has been unable to consistently live up to the standards required to be a member of our program,” said head coach Mike Krzyzewski, who on Sunday won his 1,000th career game at St. Johns’. “It is a privilege to represent Duke University and with that privilege comes the responsibility to conduct oneself in a certain manner. After Rasheed repeatedly struggled to meet the necessary obligations, it became apparent that it was time to dismiss him from the program.”

NCAA Basketball: Ohio State at IowaAs evidence of how much is stock is soaring, Ohio State freshman guard D’Angelo Russell is now projected as the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft by DraftExpess.com.

The 6-foot-5 freshman sensation trails only consensus No. 1 pick Jahlil Okafor of Duke.

Emmanuel Mudiay, playing in China, is No. 3, followed by Kentucky big man Karl-Anthony Towns at No. 4 and Arizona freshman wing Stanley Johnson at No. 5.

Kentucky’s Willie Cauley-Stein is No. 6 and 7-footer Kristaps Porzingis of Latvia is No. 7.

Minnesota, Philadelphia and the Knicks are jockeying for the NBA’s worst record.

The McDonald’s All-American game is always fertile ground for committed players to recruit uncommitted players to join them on campus.

This year figures to be no exception with nine uncommitted players chosen Wednesday night to the April 1 game at Chicago’s United Center.

Kansas commit Carlton Bragg plans to use the forum to recruit fellow forwards Jaylen Brown and Brandon Ingram to join him with the Jayhawks.

“I think there is a chance I can get them to come to Kansas with me,” Bragg told SNY.tv contributor Chip Miller on Wednesday.

Asked if he was working on a package deal, he said, “Yes.”

“He said that by participating in the McDonald’s Game with them this gives him the opportunity to recruit those two guys,” added Michael Graves, Bragg’s mentor.

Both Brown and Ingram are uncommitted and considering Kansas, among others.
