Thon_Maker1NEW YORK — Thon Maker will visit Kentucky, Kansas and several other schools if he ends up reclassing next month, his guardian Ed Smith told SNY.tv Saturday night.

Smith said he will also work in advance with the NCAA to make sure the 7-foot native of the South Sudan passes through the NCAA Clearinghouse, and if for some reason he cannot, Maker would consider playing next season in Europe or China.

“If we reclass then we’ll start looking at who we would visit,” Smith told SNY.tv before Maker went for 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 turnovers as Orangeville Prep (Ontario) lost to the Phelps (Pa.) School, 66-64, at the Big Apple Basketball Invitational at Baruch College.

JERSEY CITY—The ground in New Jersey high school hoops is shaking, and Bob Hurley and St. Anthony’s find themselves as the beneficiary.

In a week where Roselle Catholic and Pope John both lost, St. Anthony’s could be poised to take over as the best team in the state, as they beat The Patrick School 58-37 in the Dan Finn Classic at the Jersey City Armory Saturday night.

Taurean Thompson led all players with 15 points, while Wichita State-bound Markis McDuffie added 11. For St. Patrick’s, star junior guard Bryce Aiken was held to just seven points.

After The Patrick School started the game on a 6-0 run, the Friars collected themselves and proceeded to play a really strong game.

“A slow start to the game for us,” Hurley said afterwards. “Markis came out nervous. It was 6-0, we called a timeout. From that point on, they only scored two points in a very long time. Tightened up on defense, relaxed on the offensive end, started to play with a little more purpose.”

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Brandon Ingram scored 22 points and dished out 4 assists as Kinston (N.C.) came from behind Saturday to beat Syracuse-bound Malachi Richardson and Trenton Catholic, 56-54,  at the 2015 Hoophall Classic.

“I know when I play good, they play good,” Ingram said after the game. “When I play well the other guys rebound hard and play good defense.”

The 6-foot-9 Ingram, ranked 12th in the country by ESPN.com, is considering a final six of Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and N.C. State. He said he plans to visit Kansas, Kentucky and UCLA down the road. UCLA assistant David Grace was among those on hand for this game.

NEW YORK — Burlington (N.J.) Life Center point guard Traci Carter says he remains wide open in his recruitment.

The 6-foot-1 Carter listed Temple, La Salle, Louisville, Indiana, Creighton, Boston College, DePaul and Seton Hall among schools he is considering. Louisville and Indiana haven’t offered, but he said “they’re in contact every week.”

“Wide open, wide open,” he said after going for 17 points and 8 assists as Life Center beat MacDuffie (MA), 68-61, at the Big Apple Basketball Invitational at Baruch College.

NEW YORK – Jordan Tucker has been hearing from UConn, Syracuse, Arizona and Maryland, and Michigan plans to start recruiting him.

He also picked up a Seton Hall offer on Saturday, when head coach Kevin Willard and his entire staff watched Tucker play.

Tucker, a 6-foot-7 wing who is rated 23rd in ESPN’s Super 25 for the class of 2017, went for 25 points and 14 rebounds Saturday as Archbishop Stepinac beat Thurgood Marshall, 70-65, at the Big Apple Basketball Invitational at Baruch College.

“I was just in my flow today,” Tucker said.

Tai WynyardTai Wynyard, the 6-foot-9 16-year-old power forward from New Zealand who is the son of world champion woodchoppers, enjoyed his visits this week to Kentucky and Villanova and is now visiting Texas.

“Tai thoroughly enjoyed both visits,” Karymyn Wynyard told SNY.tv by email. “There is no great rush at this stage for Tai to commit. The reason we chose to visit so early is we are currently on summer break in NZ so visiting now would give Tai a little insight as to what to expect and how to prepare for College in the US without taking time off school.
