Louisville Transfer Akoy Agau to Georgetown (UPDATED)

Agau also considered Marquette and Nebraska, according to ESPN.com, which previously reported the story.

“Yes, I committed to Georgetown,” Agau told SNY.tv. “I felt like with the history they had with big men my size and with my skill set, they had been very successful. I felt like I could potentially fall in that path.

“Also if I’m unfortunate enough to not play basketball after college, I feel my degree from here can go a long ways.”

The 6-foot-8 Agau averaged 0.9 points and 1.1 rebounds in three games this season.

“This has been a great opportunity for me,” Agau said upon his departure from Louisville. “I want to thank Coach Pitino and the entire staff. I learned a lot in the two years I have been here and built a great connection with everyone. Everyone in this program is part of my family and it is sad to leave, but this is the best decision for me. I’m always going to be a part of the Louisville family.”

He expects to be eligible for the second semester in the 2015-16 season.

Georgetown is adding fellow big men Marcus Derrickson of Fairfax (VA) Paul VI and Jessie Govan of Wings Academy in The Bronx, N.Y. Wings will compete in the SNY Invitational Jan. 23-24 in New York.

“Looking for a big year next year,” Agau said.
