Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski visited Tyus Battle for the second time on Monday night, demonstrating that the 6-foot-6 Battle is a major priority for the Blue Devils going forward.

Coach K came to Gladstone (N.J.) Gill St. Bernard’s with assistants Jeff Capel and Jon Scheyer to see Battle, ranked No. 14 by ESPN.com in the Class of 2016.

“We like a Duke a lot, what’s not to like?” Gary Battle, the player’s father, told SNY.tv after the visit. “They’re playing some great basketball right now. Coach K is very good at adapting to his players. Obviously, it’s a great academic school, that’s important to us, important to Tyus.”

Kevin Ollie, the head coach of reigning national champion UConn, has approached former Arizona commit Tyler Dorsey about re-recruiting him.

The 6-foot-4 Dorsey played with current UConn freshman Daniel Hamilton at Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco and the two players are “good friends,” Jerrid Dorsey, Tyler’s father, told SNY.tv Monday evening.

“We like UConn, it makes it real attractive,” Jerrid said by phone. “We’re just trying to see where Tyler’s going to really be comfortable at. Not just at UConn, but to one school in general where he can go in and help and do what he does.”

He added: “We’re trying to talk a little bit [with Ollie] and see if it works because we do have five other schools that we’ve been talking to for a little while, so we’re just trying to see if a visit works.”

OllieWith the Jimmy V Classic set to tip off Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden, the matchups for 2015 were announced on Monday.

UConn, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia  headline the 2015 Jimmy V Men’s Basketball Classic doubleheader on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, with proceeds benefiting The V Foundation for Cancer Research. The 21st annual event will be on ESPN from New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden.

NCAA Basketball: St. John's at SyracuseIt was a big week for St. John’s and Seton Hall, with St. John’s (6-1) moving into the AP Top 25 at No. 24 after beating Syracuse Saturday at the Carrier Dome for the first time since 1999. Unbeaten Seton Hall (7-0) also received 57 votes.

Syracuse, meantime, didn’t receive any Top 25 votes for the first time in seven years.

The stars of both St. John’s and Seton Hall also picked up Big East weekly honors Monday when Red Storm senior D’Angelo Harrison was named Player of the Week and Pirates freshman guard Isaiah Whitehead earned Rookie of the week honors. For more on Whitehead and his NBA chances, click here.

BIG EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK

D’Angelo Harrison, St. John’s, G, Sr.

Harrison scored a game-high 24 points in a 69-57 win at Syracuse, the Red Storm’s first win in the Carrier Dome since 1999. In a 2-0 week that also included a 78-67 victory against Niagara, Harrison recorded 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. For the week, he averaged 20.0 points and 6.0 rebounds. For the season he is averaging 18.4 points, second in the BIG EAST, and 8.1 boards.

Like many Canadian stars before him, Jamal Murray is considering reclassifying.

“We’re thinking about it but we haven’t decided yet,” Roger Murray, the player’s father, confirmed to SNY.tv on Monday morning. “It’s on the table but we haven’t decided yet.”

Murray is a 6-foot-4 combo guard from Orangeville Prep in Ontario ranked No. 30 in the Class of 2016 by Scout and No. 19 by Rivals. He probably should be ranked much higher than that.

Murray went for  31 points, including five 3-pointers, and 6 rebounds Saturday night in an 85-71 win over Malik Newman and  Callaway (MS) at the Marshall County Hoop Fest in Benton, Ky. Newman went for 42 points in the loss.

Seton HallBY JEREMY FUCHS

NEWARK — Seven games into their college basketball season and Seton Hall is undefeated.

With a big win at the Paradise Jam tournament, an impressive victory over George Washington and an 81-54 blowout of in-state rival Rutgers on Saturday at the Prudential Center, the Pirates have shown that there is plenty of talent to go around in South Orange.

Coming up, however, is a hellacious stretch of seven games that will test whether Seton Hall is truly ready to contend in the Big East and beyond.

The Hall travels to Wichita State on Tuesday to take on the No. 11 Shockers (5-1), who despite a loss to Utah on Wednesday are still by far the best team the Pirates will have faced all year.

NCAA Basketball: New Jersey Tech at MarquetteWhen Coach Jimmy Engles and his victorious NJIT Highlanders returned to their Newark campus at about midnight Saturday, there were several hundred students cheering their arrival.

The Highlanders had just stunned the basketball world by beating No. 17 Michigan, 72-70, in Ann Arbor.

“We got back last night and there were a couple hundred kids standing by the bus,” Engles told SNY.tv Sunday morning. “It was just like we won an NCAA Tournament game.”
