Jonathan Nwankwo Sets Four Officials (UPDATED)

Jonathan Nwankwo has set four official visits.

The 6-foot-9, 250-pound Nigerian big man visits Minnesota Sept. 5, Rice Oct. 3, Temple Oct. 17 and Tennessee Oct. 24.

Nwankwo recently cut his list to six schools — the aforementioned quartet plus Fordham and Seton Hall.

Nwankwo has visited Seton Hall and probably won’t take an official there.

“We haven’t worked out a date yet although we’ve visited there a couple times,” his guardian Derrik Riullano told SNY.tv. “We’re not sure we’re going to do an official. I wouldn’t want to waste an official when we can just drive there.”

Riullano said associate head coach Shaheen Holloway told them, “Go do your other visits and see what you like.”

The big man also visited Fordham unofficially earlier this month.

“It was good,” Riullano said. “We’ve visited a few times and seen a few games. This was the first chance to sit down with the academic people.”

Wherever the big guy goes, Riullano says he’s made a “vast level of improvement” already.

As for a timeframe on a decision, Riullano said, “We’re going to make our decision before the early signing period [in November].”

Nwankwo is now at Victory Rock Prep in Sarasota, FL.

“It’s just a better opportunity for him from a basketball standpoint,” Riullano said. “He has over a 90 average. We weren’t really concerned about his academics. He needs to get better at basketball. He needs skillwork to catch up with his body.”
