SUWANNEE, Ga. — Going into Saturday’s 17U title game the feature players were We R 1’s Derrick Jones and Sports U’s Chris Silva, but it was an entirely different player that stole the spotlight at the Under Armour Finals.
Otis Livingston Jr. finished with 19 points and four assists, leading his WE-R1 squad to an easy 66-48 win over Sports U for the UAA Finals championship.
Livingston only missed two shots in the game, going 4-for-5 from the field and 10-for-11 at the free-throw line.
Early on, the two teams were locked up in a battle but a 19-3 run gave WE-R1 a double-digit lead that they would not relinquish, jumping out to a 38-22 halftime lead.
Jones, who holds offers from Kentucky, UConn and Syracuse, among others, was a key part of maintaining the lead for WE-R1 in the second half, finishing with nine points and five rebounds, and two monstrous dunks as exclamation points.
Despite the loss, Silva played well and finished in double digits, scoring 12 points and grabbing two rebounds.
