PHILADELPHIA — Seven schools are working the hardest for 2016 point guard Derryck Thornton, his father told SNY.tv.
Kentucky, UConn, Michigan, Florida, Miami, USC and Cal “are working the hardest,” Tank Thornton said here at the Reebok Classic Breakout.
The younger Thornton will eventually trim his list to five and go from there.
Kentucky coach John Calipari, UConn’s Kevin Ollie, Michigan’s John Beilein, Miami’s Jim Larranaga and USC’s Andy Enfield have all been in attendance, while Florida’s Billy Donovan may arrive later Friday.
Thornton has visited Kentucky and Michigan this summer, picking up offers from both, but has no other visits planned for now.
The 6-foot-2 Findlay Prep guard has had an outstanding summer, earning MVP honors at the recent Steph Curry Elite Camp and leading his Knicks’ team to a title at the NBA Top 100 Camp.
He was considered one of the top players here this week at Reebok, where he is expected to make Friday’sĀ All-Star Game.
Thornton played here on a team that featured his close friend Tyus Battle, a 2016 combo guard from Gill St. Bernard’s who is considering many of the same schools. The two would like to play together in college, but will make organic decisions about their recruitment.
